CCT – IPMA Certified Consultant Coach or Trainer
The certification is offered at three levels A, B and C, where A is the highest level. You do not have to start at Level C, but simply choose the certification level that corresponds to your experience and your competence level.
The certification is an obvious opportunity for you who work professionally with the development of project management and project managers.
The entire certification process will be conducted in English language.
Certified Project Management Trainer
Can be an interesting certification for you who work in education in project management. You can possibly work as:
- Internal trainer in your company or organisation
- Freelance trainer
- Trainer in an education / consulting company that offers open or tailor-made courses for external companies
- Trainer in an academic field that provides project management courses, seminars or workshops
- Trainer preparing candidates for IPMA certification
Certified Project Management Consultant and Coach
Can be an interesting certification for you who work as a consultant or coach in project management. You can possibly work as:
- Consultant or coach in your company or organisation
- Line manager who coaches internal employees
- Freelance consultant or coach
- Consultant or coach in a consulting house that provides advice on project management or coaching to clients’ project managers
- Consultant or coach preparing candidates for IPMA certification
Experience requirements for CCT
Level A
Certified Executive consultant and coach in project management (CECC)
Within the last 8 years you must document:
At least 5 years of experience (equivalent to at least 1500 hours of experience in total) as a leading consultant or coach in project management who has strategically influenced individuals, teams or the organization’s development.
Certified Executive Trainer in project management (CET)
Within the last 8 years you must document.
At least 5 years of experience (equivalent to at least 1500 hours of experience in total) as a leading trainer or trainer in project management that has strategically influenced individuals, teams or the organization’s development.
Level B
Certified Senior Consultant and Coach in project management (CSCC)
Within the last 5 years you must document:
At least 3 years of experience (equivalent to at least 1000 hours experience in total) as a consultant or coach in project management.
Certified Senior Trainer in project management (CST)
Within the last 5 years you must document:
At least 3 years of experience (equivalent to at least 1000 hours experience in total) as a trainer in project management or as a lead trainer in project management.
Level C
Certified Consultant and Coach in project management (CCC)
Within the last 3 years you must document:
At least 6 months experience (equivalent to at least 500 hours experience in total) as a consultant or coach in project management.
Certified Trainer in project management (CT)
Within the last 3 years you must document:
At least 6 months experience (equivalent to at least 500 hours experience in total) as a trainer in project management.

CCT certification process
- Introduction
First, you participate in a 4-hour online introduction, where we:
- Review the template for you to be filled during the certification process
- Introduces you to ICBCCT (the description of the competencies assessed at the certification)
- Explains how to complete the self-assessment
- Review the templates you will need for your case studies
- Goes through the certification process
- ICBCCT will be provided in PDF when you sign up
After the introduction, you have approx. one month to complete and submit your resume and self-assessment.
- First assessment and first feedback
The assessors assess your CV and your self-assessment and then gives you feedback in the form of an email.
There are two possible outcomes of your initial assessment:
- The assessors approve that you can continue the certification process. The assessors may choose to give you some hints and tips for your further work with your case studies
- The assessors cannot approve that you can continue the certification process and will explain to you the reasons for this.
- Written exam
If you apply for a CCT-Certification at Level B or C and do not have a valid IPMA Certificate in Project Management, Program Management, Portfolio Management or Agile Leadership, you shall pass a written exam at IPMA Level-D as part of your CCT certification.
Once you have passed your written exam at D level, you will be awarded an IPMA certificate at level D and you can continue with your CCT certification.
If you apply to be certified at level A, there is no requirement that you must pass a written exam as part of your CCT certification. If you need to be certified at levels B and C and already have a valid IPMA certificate in project management, program management, portfolio management or Agile Leadership, you also do not have to pass a written exam as part of your CCT certification.
- Case studies
At Level A and B you must write at least 2 case studies and at Level C you must only write at least one case study.
Each case study has a maximum volume of 25 pages. For each case study, you have the option of attaching up to 15 pages of appendices.
The purpose of these case studies is to give you the opportunity to document your competencies in relation to the competency elements of ICBCTT.
- Interview
The final step in the certification process is the interview with you and the two assessors who have processed all your material. The interview can take place either online or as a physical meeting. At the meeting, the two assessors will ask clarifying questions for your CV, your self-assessment and for your Case Studies.
The interview has a maximum duration of 2 hours.
Immediately after the interview, you will receive the final decision on your Certification level, and the assessors will give you feedback on your competencies.
Description of the competences
All applicants for the CCT-certification are assessed against the competencies described in ICBCTT, which can be downloaded here.
Written exam
Unless you already have a valid IPMA certificate, you must pass a written exam at the IPMA-D level as part of your CCT certification.
Everyone who registers for the written exam will be sent the book “ICB4 for Project Management in “PDF-format”. The book describes the 28 competencies tested by an IPMA-D certification.
The exam is conducted online and has a duration of 3 hours. If you are dyslexic – or have problems reading/writing in English language – please make us aware of this no later than 3 weeks before the written exam. You will then be allocated an extra 0,5 hour for the written exam.
Before the exam starts, you must present photo identification.
No aids are allowed for the exam. You can choose to complete the written exam at home from, or from a meeting room in your organisation, where you can sit undisturbed throughout the exam.
You must have your WEB camera on during the entire exam and your microphone must be turned off. During the exam, you are supervised by one or more supervisors.
There will be several multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions, all of which relate to all 28 competencies described in ICB4 for Project Management.
To pass, you must have answered correctly to questions for at least 23 competency elements.
The written exam must be passed for you to proceed with your CCT certification. If you do not pass the exam, you can try again in the same certification course. On our website you can find the price for participating in a new exam.
