Kandidatportræt: Sergio Nieto Sobrino
Mere end 8.000 projektledere er gennem årene blevet IPMA-certificeret alene i Danmark, hvor den generelle tilfredshed blandt kandidaterne er stor. Men hvorfor har kandidaterne valgt at blive certificeret – og hvad har de fået ud af det? Dette spørgsmål har vi stillet blandt andre Sergio Nieto Sobrino fra Siemens Energy, der i november 2025 erhvervede sig IPMA C-certificeringen.
First of all, congratulations on passing the IPMA-certification. What is the reason behind you chose an IPMA-certification?
– My main motivation for pursuing an IPMA certification was the desire to obtain formal and internationally recognized validation of the project management experience that I have built over the years. I was looking for a certification that is widely respected across different industries and markets, and IPMA provided exactly that through a structured framework and a clear terminology that also serves as a common language for collaboration across teams, organizations, and professional communities.
– Another important motivation was to further strengthen my professional development while gaining clearer insight into areas where I can continue to grow. This certification also allowed me to contribute to the development of my department by becoming one of the first certified team members and helping to set a direction that colleagues can build on.
What knowledge and competencies have you gained from the course?
– The certification process itself proved to be a very valuable and structured reflection exercise, enabling a comprehensive review of my professional development journey over recent years. While I was already aware of the scope and impact of my responsibilities, preparing the CV and especially the self-assessment led to a deeper and more integrated understanding of my competencies from a holistic perspective. This process not only sharpened my self-awareness but also reinforced my aspiration to progress toward the next management level, aligned with a continuous mindset improvement and a commitment to professional excellence.
– Among the most practical takeaways for my daily work are the use of the project complexity matrix as a powerful tool to assess project environments and support appropriate resource allocation, as well as to anticipate and manage potential risks early on. At the same time, the reflection process helped me identify areas for further improvement, particularly strengthening active listening and communicating more concisely and effectively in complex project environments.
– Overall, the certification has provided both recognition of my existing experience and a valuable framework to further develop my competencies as a project manager.
